As humans we are destined to spend every day with tons of questions going through our minds. You can look at this questioning in two ways. You can look at it as a negative or as a positive. I feel like most people, including the old me, looks at questioning in a negative way. It’s easy to see it as a time of confusion and frustration just trying to find the answers we are desperately searching for. We spend those days dragging due to a lack of energy from racking our brains for answers. What if I told you I have found that questioning is actually an amazing positive in life? Would you believe me? Let me tell you how I have found this new sight on questioning.
Whether we want to admit it or not, we all question God. Some of us question differently than others, and even may have completely different questions. We have been raised to believe these questions towards God, the Bible, and religion makes us bad Christians. Maybe even makes us not Christians at all. When questioning God, at least for me, I have been taught to believe that makes me a doubter. A non-believer. But that could not be farther from the truth. You see, being in a time of questioning is an amazing place to be. If you spend the time correctly, you can grow in many areas of your life, specifically your spiritual and mental health. So then, how can you spend this time in a way that brings growth? By seeking out those answers intentionally. Once God brought my questions and lifestyle to my attention, I decided to take all the gray areas that were preventing me from growing and asked God for answers. Before I had decided to seek answers, I let the questions drag me down. I did not understand the gray areas and decided that I could make those decisions myself and come up with my own answers. Man was that the wrong decision. That decision held me back from months of growth, and even caused me to halt in my faith. Then I had a change of thinking, and quite honestly a change of heart. I began googling my questions in order to find bible verses on those specific topics. I spent every week studying a different question and intentionally sought out answers from God. This brought me to a place where I began to get excited every time a new question came up because I love taking those questions to God and digging into the Bible. I began growing in my relationship with God and in my wisdom. This, in turn, increased my mental health. Seeking God daily and digging into His word brings a certain joy and positivity to my day. A kind of positivity that helps me stay in a healthier place mentally because I am meditating on my devotional from that morning.
For this reason, questioning is my favorite thing to do. There are so many positives that outweigh the negatives. But, again, this depends on your outlook. If you cannot think of any questions off the top of your head, ask God to place some on your mind. I do that all the time. I ask Him to give me question after question so I can continue to learn and grow closer to Him. Take these questions and doubts and earnestly seek the answers from God. He will meet you in this time and give you answers, in His timing, through His word.
You are no less of a believer for questioning, you are just a growing believer.
