Proverbs 2:1-22 The Value of Wisdom:
2 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
13 who have left the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
14 who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
15 whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.
16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words,
17 who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God.[a]
18 Surely her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.
19 None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
20 Thus you will walk in the ways of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land,
and the blameless will remain in it;
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
Let’s dive into what God opened my eyes to in these verses. It is important to understand that what I am going to be talking about is what God showed me, which may be different from what He opens your eyes to. Dive into the verses yourself as well and allow God to speak to you individually.
“Seek, and you shall find..” Mathew 7:7. That only makes sense, right? In order to find what you are looking for you have to actively seek for it. How do you find something you are not looking for? Or something that you do not even know you are looking for? You simply don’t. That is why I love Mathew 7:7 so much. We are called to seek in order to find. It is so easy to be lazy and just decide to let God come to us. Like a mindset of “Ehh if God is wanting me to have that knowledge or find that, then He will bring it to me.” This is a very dangerous mindset. In order to gain wisdom and knowledge we have to seek. You do this by actively praying and digging into God’s word. Allow Him to speak to you through His word and you will find what you are looking for. Even if you do not know what it is you need to be seeking for, when you seek God will bring it to you. Isn’t that amazing? Even if you do not know what you are looking for, God will bring it to you if you just seek.
I could tell you that I have always just had the urge to seek by digging into the Word, but that would be a lie. I used to, and still sometimes do, really struggle with reading my Bible. It is a really big conviction of mine. I used to never seek after God and read the Bible. This makes me really sad because I know if only I would have began seeking sooner, I would have had more knowledge and wisdom at a younger age. That is something I pray for you. I pray you figure out to seek sooner than I did. If you do not have the drive to dig into the Word, do not beat yourself up. You are not a terrible Christian for not seeking in the Word every single day. When I was younger, I was told that I was not saved because I was bad about not reading the Bible. I completely believed that and it broke me. I believed that for years. That is works-based faith. Believing that the work you do determines whether you get into Heaven or not. This is not correct on any account. Once I figured that I had been told wrong, I decided to take it to God. This was the very beginning of me seeking answers. It all started with me figuring out the issues with things I had been told in the past. I am very blessed for the questions God placed in front of me at the time He did. I was able to meet up with my discipler to begin processing my questions and how to find the answers. During this time my drive to seek in the Word began to grow. I then began to pray for God to give me a thirst and drive to seek Him out through prayer and His Word. I continuously prayed that prayer and continued meeting with my discipler, and from that my whole spiritual life began to change. All I had to do was pray for a drive to seek and begin seeking by using the tools around me.
Once you gain the knowledge of seeking and you put action behind it, you will never go back. Proverbs 2:7-22 speaks of what you gain from the wisdom you get by seeking. The knowledge and wisdom you gain protect you in more ways than just one. They help keep you from falling into the grips of evil. The more knowledge you have, the easier it is to fight satan and the sin he places on your mind. Having God’s Word as a shield makes a big difference on whether you fall into sin or fight it off. Don’t get me wrong, everyone still sins daily, but the difference is actually fighting the sin itself. Using prayer and scripture to help keep from it and knowing that it is better for you to fight the sin off instead of indulging in it. This is why it is so important to seek and find the truth and knowledge of the Bible. It brings protection from evil. That is the only way to fight sin. Satan and the drive to sin he gives us is powerful, but not as powerful as prayer and scripture.
If you do not get anything else from me from these verses, just take this one thought to meditate on. Begin seeking those answers now. It helped me continue to seek and gain a drive to become knowledgable. It helps me fight the sins my earthly self craves so badly.
Choose to seek. You will find a never-ending door of answers and knowledge that is beautiful to have.
Find time this week to dig into these verses yourself and seek God. Ask Him to open your heart to what you need to learn and what He is trying to tell you. Dive deeper into what you get from these versus by using google, books, etc.
