Does not wisdom call out?(A)
Does not understanding raise her voice?
2 At the highest point along the way,
where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
3 beside the gate leading into the city,
at the entrance, she cries aloud:(B)
4 “To you, O people, I call out;(C)
I raise my voice to all mankind.
5 You who are simple,(D) gain prudence;(E)
you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.[a]
6 Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say;
I open my lips to speak what is right.
7 My mouth speaks what is true,(F)
for my lips detest wickedness.
8 All the words of my mouth are just;
none of them is crooked or perverse.
9 To the discerning all of them are right;
they are upright to those who have found knowledge.
10 Choose my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold,(G)
11 for wisdom is more precious(H) than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.(I)
Let’s dive into what God opened my eyes to in these verses. It is important to understand that what I am going to be talking about is what God showed me, which may be different from what He opens your eyes to. Dive into the verses yourself as well and allow God to speak to you individually.
The first thing I noticed in these verses is the word “wisdom”. That is the one word that has been continuously showing up throughout these Proverbs passages. Wisdom must be really important then, right? If God is so adamant about pushing wisdom into our hearts through His Word then it is something we should definitely pay attention to. Wisdom is the gateway to strong faith and to a strong relationship with God. I love these verses on wisdom because they helped me better understand how to get this wisdom God keeps throwing at us and emphasizes its importance.
I love that we learn in the first couple verses that wisdom and understanding calls out to us. there is absolutely nothing secretive about them. They are both found wherever people are and are easily accessible to us! Isn’t that amazing? Wisdom and understanding are the complete opposite of the world and its evil desires. The world keeps itself and its sins hidden away. Think about it. When you are living in sin and chasing after the desires Satan is throwing at you, it’s important to keep those things under wraps, right? I feel like people today have a hard time even saying what their biggest sin struggles are. That’s the beauty of wisdom. It is never hidden from us and is something that we find when we seek for it. We find it through reading the Bible and allowing it to enter into our minds and hearts. Something else that is amazing is that it is literally there for everyone. Anyone who answers the call of wisdom can receive it! There’s not a single person on this earth that cannot receive it if they answer the call.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning so much about wisdom and understanding through Proverbs. The thing is, before studying this book I did not know how important the two are to my life. They both come from God and play a huge role in my spiritual walk. Without the wisdom and understanding I have gained, I would not be as close to God as I am. Once you truly begin to seek after God and the more you learn of the Bible, the better your walk will be. It’s important to have wisdom on the things God asks us to steer from and how to do so. If you do not seek and gain wisdom on that aspect of your spiritual life then it will be extremely difficult to keep from the sins your flesh desires. Satan will never stop throwing things at us. He is constantly trying to make us stumble and pull us away from God. If you allow wisdom and understanding into your life then it will make it a whole lot harder for Satan to cause you to stumble and easier for you to say no to temptations that come. Towards the end of these verses it is said that wisdom is more precious than rubies and nothing else we desire can be compared to it, but how? If you dig into the importance of wisdom you will see why it should be treasured as such. It grows your relationship with God and allows you to truthfully help others looking for wisdom.
Once I started learning about wisdom and understanding, I could not stop wanting more. Not because I want to be smarter than the next person biblically, but because every time I gain wisdom and understanding from the Bible, I grow spiritually. It has brought joy, love, and peace into my life and I want the same for you!! Answer the call to wisdom by digging into these verses this week and seeking out Jesus.
I pray you gain wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and a drive to get closer to Jesus
